I have just joined the mailing group and would like to introduce myself.
My name is Peter Harris and I started using Ubuntu last year. I am a
retired BT engineer (probably too old at 70 to change operating systems)

I have just used the synaptic package manager to download and install
texlive-math-extra. It does not appear in the applications menu and I
can't find a way of starting it. There is a folder in /etc called texmf
containing a number of folders and files. Can anyone help please?

Help!!! I have just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 and now I can't log in.
The log in screen appears with this message "INSTALL PROBLEM The
configuration defaults for Gnome Power Manager have not been installed
correctly. Please contact your computer administrator."
I am now reduced to using Windo

Thanks for the tip, the disk is nearly full with 0% available for dev.
I shall have to upgrade my hardware. In the meantime is there a way of
getting back to 9.10?

While making the checks you suggested I discovered several full backups
I had deleted that were still in the wastebasket. I now have sufficient
space to run 10.04 but will have to upgrade my hardware sometime. Many
