A dumb question from a neophyte for the Drake experts:
I recently acquired a nice TR7 with power supply. I am enjoying it. The
manual, however, doesnt give me much info on the aux board.
How would I know if mine has one installed (without opening it up)? That
is, is there some configuration of
Hi folks,
Garey Barrell & I share experiences and help often, often ending our
remarks with the above subject line. I thought the group might sympathize
with that after reading my latest.
For a week or 3 I've been agonizing over a T-4XB I picked up in Nov.

Hi All:
First, thanks to all who responded to my requests for information on the
TR-7. Now I'd like to find one.
I'm looking for a TR-7 with digital display, fully operational, without
problems or "quirks" and ready for the air. I have no preference for
options, so a basic unit would be fine.

That's what I get for being in a hurry..
The Bias supply filter cap in the AC-4 (C5a and b) is the possibility after the
6EV7. Early units used 20 uF, later used 40 uF. Easy to check by just
paralleling the output (C5b) with whatever you happen to have around that is
more than 20

The relay hanging is probably a gassy 6EV7. It's possible that C91, the bias
supply capacitor mentioned below is the culprit, but most likely the tube itself.
The rest of your problems are probably being caused by dried out electrolytic
capacitors.
C90A-D, the four section twist-lok cap
Hi Tim,
R-4B:
For the calibrator trouble look at the ripple on the supply to the
calibrator. The cathode of D16 is a good place to look. If C192 is bad you
will see lots of ripple. Also look at C190, which is up in the calibrator
on the collector of Q9. Same thing, but it would have to be sor
Many thanks to all who have responded with such helpful information. I'm
convinced that there's a TR-7 in my future. Now my next question: what's a
fair price? I've found one advertised for $750, really clean and reportedly
fully operational. It includes the PS-7 power supply, operator's manua
Have a few problems with my B line I am hoping I
can't get some answers to here.
1. On my T4XB, you set the relay delay for a
resonable delay time, then after a long cw xmission the relay hangs and wont
release until you turn the delay pot way back. Then it wont key again until you
run the
I have a TR7 and an R7 ... I have noticed that the R7 sensitivity is
lower on 10M than the TR7- enough that I notice the audio level
difference ... normal? Or should I realign the R7.

Hello Guys,
Have been off the list for some time now and have
encountered a strange problem with my C line.T4XC and R4C work fine until you
try to spot the 2 vfo's together.I have to turn the R4C gain all the way up to
even hear the slightest chirp. When you think they are spotted and return

In my experience, the TR-7 is a fine, reliable radio, with excellent transmit
and receive audio. I have it paired up with a

Here is what I have seen either on mine or others:
digital display goes out completely;
frequency drift;
reports of tinny transmit audio (I get much better audio reports on my T4XC than my TR7);
reseating boards, and/or looking for pinched/detached jumpers seems to remedy some portion of T

The most common failure seem to be problems with the board contacts. To
cure this, r
Hi All:
I miss my Drake gear. I had a beautiful C-Line that I sold a few years ago
in a moment of short-sightedness. I'm looking to replace it with a TR-7.
I've done a lot of reading on the TR-7s, so I know pretty much what they do.
I have three questions right now.
First, where are the skelet
