I've got a TR7A that works good on SSB, but AM transmit is problematic. I
have to keep changing the carrier level control to get it to work. I've
cleaned the control and aligned the radio, even changed a couple of caps
to get the 40mhz oscillator and BFO both "dead on". It also acts
different from

Thanks, Rex, that's good info. Another data point. All of my tests have
been done with the preamp off.

Hello
Seems that in my Tr7/ R7 setup, the R7 receives the same as the Tr7 when the
R7 Preamp is on. When off, the Tr7 receiver is a little hotter.

Correct. This is to turn the Calibrator "ON" when the receiver is in
the "NB" position.

I want to go thru the alignment procedure for the 4-NB as called out in its
data sheet (page 1). After I have peaked the two variable caps (C3 and C6), the
next step is too connect pin 2 of the calibrator socket to ground. Is this
referring to pin 2 of the xtal calibrator socket?

I've actually run several pieces of gear through the dishwasher and the results
are spectacular! I was nervous the first time around, but now it is becoming
commonplace. Here are a few tips that I've learned (in no particular order -
and in addition to what's already been written on this):
1.

If I had a dishwasher I actually did that to an IBM server power
supply once. This computer had been in storage and had mice living in
it. WOrked fine after it

It's here. Slightly older by serial number than mine. Man, this sucker
needs to be steam-cleaned. But the price was right

Thanks, Ron and Lee for the information. It's helpful. Were I'm at is
that there IS a noticable difference in my rigs. I started with both
RXs aligned by the book, with an HP 8656B signal generator. I noticed
right away that the R7A "seemed" much more sensitive - reading 1-2 S
units higher on sign

Hello Jim, well I have both the R7A & the TR7A mated
together and I see very little if any difference in the
receiving capability of either unit. The R7 is basically
the same as the receive section of a fully loaded TR7, but
with a few minor exceptions like the notch filter and noise
