Remember also that absolute power measurements, especially across different
bands, should be made into a dummy load. Measurements on an antenna system will

Peter and others,
I don't typically run my Drake linears on 110 volts so my experiences there are
limited. However, I can still afford a comment or two which may or may not be
useful.
Typically, a decent set of tubes with properly operating power supply will
provide about 900-1,000 watts DC
My L4-B puts out around 800 watts on 40 (120v) but only 600 on 20. Both
antennas are fed identically and matching is the same. It puts out 500 on 15.
Does this suggest that I should replace components (I'm sure the resistors are
candidates) or is this just the nature of the beast?
Thanks in adv
I bought a TR-4CW/RIT off ebay and it would jump in frequency even
when just listening. I found that one of those dumbell ceramic
capacitors inside the PTO
had a very small crack in it. I replaced the cap and all is well.

Hi People,
Awhile back someone was looking for the L4PS HV power supply for the L4/L4B...
Here's a link to one on Ebay. FYI, this is NOT my auction or anyone I know.
Strictly a "public service".

If you are not turning the dial and it jumps then it is not likely a
mechanical issue. As stated before the vfo oscillator is quite
voltage sensitive. My bet is the Zener as I have written earlier.
Solid state devices were not consistently uniform as they are now and

I had this problem once in a old HQ170 and it turned out to be the C in the
vfo LC circuit. It was a nice looking mica capacitor and I didn't think at
first that it could be the problem but after all the other things I changed
once I replaced it all was right with the world again.
