Guys the other week someone ask about all band TX for the TR7. Found this
method in my notes on the TR7. There is another mod which cuts PCB traces
which I think also disables the PLL out of lock TX inhibit. I think this
method saves that function.
To enable the TR7 to transmit on all

No, it's a 4016 / 14016, same thing. It's a quad analog switch used in the TR-7 as well. Motorola
just put the '1' in front of the CMOS number.
The 4066 / 14066 is the same thing too. Easy to find.

Hi folks,
I picked up an R-4 (no-suffix) about a year ago and listened on it for
a while with just a random wire inside the house. Really like the
radio. Back in the spring, it developed a hum, and sounded like the
radio was zero-beat with a carrier wherever I tuned. I figured filter
caps were
Indeed, there are two multilegged creatures with the 4016 moniker. You are both
correct. One is an analog switch, one is a counter.

OK. Guess you have to look and see what the circuit is! The standard CMOS chips are CD4016, which
is a Quad Analog Switch. Motorola's version is a MC14016, which is why the 'extra' 1 at the
beginning. I seem to recall now that Motorola DID have a series of 4000 chips, much like the
So, the mc4016P is equivalent to the mc 14016P. This is a 16 DIP plastic
case, divide by N from 0 to 9. The one that is bad is U 706 in the divider
board used as a counter, but there are several others of this type in the
circuit. If the 1 in front of the 4016 means cmos, I suppose they will
One way to provide additional band slots for the transmit and receive is to

I'm afraid I misled you on the MC14016 chip. That is a quad analog switch,
same thing as a CD4016.
Your chip is a programmable counter MC4016 as Curt said, and considerably
harder to find.
The only other thing I would say is the 'Chinese parts' are sometimes
counterfeit or bad.
Greetings Group,
I need a On/Off power switch and gain control. It is listed on the schematic as
R79, 84 Control Var. resistor to complete my restoration of a T4XB. Is there
anyone out there who sells parts or know of a source for this part ? Thanks.

Garey,
Your purchase is definitely the better value although I'm not sure if DeOxit
has a shelf life? Come to think of it, is there a shelf life for most of
these products? I have cleaners on the bench that are now 15+ years old!
Where do you find the Chemtronic stuff.

The easiest way to determine which one is correct is that the MC4016 divider
IC is a 16 pin part and the 4016 analog switch is a 14 pin part.

Sorry to interrupt, but does the R7 aux board use the R4 crystals or the SPR4
crystals?

I bought a 2mL container of Deoxit 100% together with order for couple of
tubes. So far, I have yet to use Deoxit on anything, previous postings have
made me leary. I'm understanding one drop on the stationary contact, then
rotation? Then using industrial qtip to pick up the results?
I've used Deoxit for quite a while with very good results. (This is the
Caig product, not the Radio Shack product with a *very* similar name.)
As far as application, I use one of three methods:
1) Wet the sharp end of a toothpick and use that to apply. I

There's more than one way to skin a cat. You can fake an AUX-7 by installing
diode networks on the bottom of the parent board, similar to this:

It can get ugly, but if you only want, for example, WARC bands or VLF receive,
it's not too bad.

I'm sure it has a recommended shelf life, but the bottle I just finished off (about 1/4 in the
bottom) is at least 15 years old and still seems to clean just fine. I always keep it capped.
Actually the only problem I had with it was that the bottle became 'deformed', i.e., pushed in
