I followed Ryan's advice but ran into a problem when trying to compile the savage
module. I get an error message that CMPXCHG is not compiled into my kernel. OK, I
understand this because the default Knoppix kernel is built for 386 simply to enable
it to run on as many machines as pos

after updating and recompiling DRI direct rendering was not working. I
even tried make World to be sure. LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxgears shows
this problem:

There is something wrong with the i810 driver at the moment, when I just
run an X server, run anything that exits, when the X server recycles
something is being kept allocated across the recycle and a drmAgpBind
fails on the server coming back up,
however when that fails the clean up calls DRIClo
btw the i810 bug is triggered by setting VideoRam to a big number (65536
in my case makes it fail on the recycle...)
