Finally got the Media Viewer to work.
=> As it stood, for some reason I do not know, config.prod.yml was being
ignored and therefore media viewer on the UI was not activated even when I
set the media viewer to true in the config.prod.yml:
mediaViewer:
image: true
video: true
=> I had to mo
ce 7.6
(Kind of weird, since I setup a VM with Dspace 7.6 installed and the media
viewer worked seamlessly after modification of config.prod.yml)
Hope this helps someone out there with a similar pain in the neck!

Kindly do an inspect element on the browser(while accessing from both WWW
and locally) and check the console tab for errors that are displayed. This
will be helpful in troubleshooting.

Are you using a reverse proxy in your configuration. If you are using a
reverse proxy such nginx, you can restrict file upload based on extensions
using it.

Cross check the value of dspace.ui.url in your local.cfg file. It
looks like the value in your local.cfg is corresponding to api.mydspace.edu
and not localhost. Ensure that these values (dspace-ui.url and the host of
ui in the config.prod.yml are the same.

For them to be displayed, you should go to processes and run a process
called filter-media. When it's done running, all the thumbnails will show
up!
