I didn't have time yesterday to work on it. But this morning when I look,
it magically works by itself! The Date Issued facet is above the Subject
facet on the homepage. Nothing needs to be done.

area and then rebuild DSpace, right?

Before you restart Tomcat be sure to clear the cocoon cache. Once you have
stopped Tomcat do to tomcatdir\work\localhost\ROOT\cache-dir and delete
both cocoon-ehcache.data and cocoon-ehcache.index. Then restart Tomcat.
Note: If you are using XMLUI, and have not renamed the XMLUI webapp to ROOT

I modified the file discovery.xml. I moved the line "" up above the line "" in two places. One is the Default
Configuration Setting section; the other "Homepage specific configuration
settings" section. The final results are as following:
Take a look at dspace\config\spring\api\discovery.xml
