We have a new bug-fix release of DSpace 1.8 available: DSpace 1.8.2
This small bug fix release addresses a number of issues that have
cropped up since 1.8.0 and 1.8.1. These issues include:
* Several bug fixes to the AIP Backup & Restore tools
* Increase default XMLUI upl
Look in your dspace.log file(s) (normally in your {/dspace}/log directory,
which should give you more information about the error. Also look in your web
server log(s) as you may find some useful information in there.

Hi Mark,
There sure is: [dspace]/bin/dspace cleanup
That will delete files from the assetstore which have been marked as deleted in
the db. (It only does this for items that have been marked as deleted for at
least [some amount of time, I forget how much].)

We recently updated our google-metadata.properties file to include, among other
things, the mapping google.citation_doi = dc.relation.isversionof . We are
seeing the new mappings being inconsistently applied across items and even
between the simple and full display of a single item

Does your dspace user home directory (/home/dspace) exist?
Does the dspace user have permission to write to this directory?

I'm trying to set my DSpace repo up to use Oracle instead of Postgres.
I've followed the instructions in the docs
(http://www.dspace.org/1_6_2Documentation/ch03.html#N108B4) by downloading the
latest driver (ojdbc6.jar) and running the following command:
/opt/apache-maven-2.2.1/bin/mvn ins
