It looks as the tomcat connector is not properly configured to use the
URIEncoding UTF8.
Please check the content of your server.xml

characters incorrectly, Therefore no hits are returned.
For example when you search on Sánchez an author that exists in our system
Dspace translates this Author to Sánchez.
