If upgraded by MCE then you have a card-bus upgraded 2400. You probably don't have the correct set of extensions for whatever usb device you're trying and/or the appropriate Apple drivers. You did not mention what device you are trying to use. My MCE-upgraded 2400 works great with firewire and usb

I've never had a 2300 but the speed, memory and upgrade path of a 2400 would make it my choice. A stock 2400 could probably be had less than $300, but once you drop in a cheap 20gb hard drive you'll never regret it. Other than my old 6100 the 2400 was the first computer I've ever opened up and I

I kind of doubt that it's the hard drive. I used to experience a crash on wake-up but with just about every incarnation of my 2400. I got into the habit of spinning down the drive and dimming the screen manually. I don't know why, but the problem just went away. Although I have noticed it happens

It's only a 96mb chip, which can bring the max ram in the 2400 to 112mb. Some of the Japanese sights show higher ram but this has done by replacing the soldered on chip with a 32mb chip. (I do think you can still buy the 128 RAM for $300 or so from the importer.) -- Duo/2400 List, The

8.6 is great for that config. More ppc code = faster. You won't notice much of a ram hit, course that depends on what you do, but for MS office, internet, light dtp, mp3 it'll work great. Drop in a big HD, they're cheap now. I've got an 18gb in mine but I want one of those 60 giggers! Andy Just
