Several of the logs end with an error similar to the one in gnome-session.log - Resource temporarily unavailable on X server :0 I can't see one that gives an indication of what has gone wrong. ** Attachment added: gnome-session.log

Can you explain what you mean by using the HUD to find an app? The HUD (usually brought up by hitting Alt) does not find apps, it is used to run menu selections. Perhaps you mean the Dash (usually run by hitting the Windows (Super) key. But then the comment about Gimp does not make sense. --
