It sounds like DX4WIN didn't shut down properly and the
SAVE\DX4WIN.CFG file got corrupted. I hope you wrote the settings to
a .INI file at some point. Just delete the .CFG file, restart DX4WIN,
and merge from your .INI file.

You should first restore your dx4win.cfg and dx4win.ini from a backup.
If you don't have a backup, you should, you could have damaged your log.
Change your security preferences to update but NOT restart your computer
but to just notify you.
With these changes it won't happen again.
