[Elecraft] kx1 r30 mod / max power question

2004-08-20 Thread David Toepfer
I finally did it and put a 330 in place of the 220 for R30. It made all the difference. I can not get 2W on internal battery. My only concern is that on external gel cell power I sometimes get max power of between 4 and 5 W Is this too much power for the power transistor to handle? I could

I don't have an 850S, but you could try an external negative dc supply (say -9v to 0v) on the radios ALC input. That should vary the output from zero upwards. Most of the Kenwood range have a Din socket transverter port on the rear apron which outputs a couple of milliwatts or so although I

Re: [Elecraft] Transverter question

2004-08-20 Thread Don Brown
Hi If the Kenwood has a low level transverter output then you can set up the jumpers for 0 to 1 MW input. Another option would be to build a 50 ohm 3 db power attenuator on the output of the Kenwood. There are several designs in the back of the ARRL handbook. The low level out is the best way

I was so surprised Lyle that I have just downloaded the manual to see for myself :-) Sure enough, no transverter port! It does have the usual linear amp switching though including ALC input (remote connector pin 6). I personally find this a more elegant solution than the attenuator as well

Great story, Leigh. Being from Southern California, originally, I can attest to how hard it is to work Europe from there -- well, at least compared to how easy it is from the Eastern U.S. Doing it with a couple of watts and an ad-hoc antenna is that much more rewarding! 73, Wayne N6KR On Aug
