Fred, I found the type of blades your looking for on e-bay. For
reasons other than those you suggested, I don't think it's a good idea
to have razor blades around 6th graders, regardless of how good a
learning tool they may be.

Hi All
Just built the XG1 test oscillator and tested out the K2
I also have a number of other radios here that I can compare it against,
only tested a few so far but here are my results
K2 Filter set to 0.7 (which is same as 500Hz filter ,so the manual says)
AGC off, MDS value in CW Mode
Hello again
Just a quick one, I did the K2 test with the ATU on, I put a 50ohn load on
the radio first and tuned that 1.0:1 ,and then replaced the load with the
XG1.
How do you put the ATU in bypass mode, I looked in the manual but couldn’t
find it.
Cheers

To bypass the KAT2, go to the menu and set either ATU CALP, ATU CALS or ATU
POUT (depending on what you want the display to read when pressing TUNE, see
the chart in the manual) - the KAT2 ANT1 and ANT2 jacks
Hi Chas,
That AView program has bugged me for some time and I had hoped you
would have got some good replies to your question. It is a rather crude
program but we have to remember it is probably at least 10 years old. I
am using Windows XP and I find AView screws up the colours on other
Carl,
I know little about the K2 battery but assume that it is nickle-cadmium or
nickle-metal-hydride and probably consists of 10 or so cells in series.
When such a battery is completely discharged the amount of charge needed by
each of the individual cells becomes unbalanced. For this
Galena crystals which can be used with a cat whisker to work as the detector
or go to radio shack and buy a bunch of genrmainium diodes (1N34A).
I see galena crystals for sale on ebay. Also there is a recipie for making
you own. Just search the net.
Better yet, Harry's homebrew page has a
You must compare radios with same bandwidth if You want to do the
comparision chart.
So first measure the -3dB bandpass of filters on 1KMP and K2 and then
compare measurments in dBc/Hz.
K2 is not bad at all on RX.
My measurments:

The TX chain has some problems,
And Yes, the MDS is also -139dBm at my K2 but this is not a sign, how good
the RTx isbecause preamplifiers are doing their job :)

Frank,
There are steel blades still sold at Home Depot for painting clean up of
windows. Single edge razor blades.
Now if the school official crazies won't stomach those, you can simple
substitute some plated metal or even a rusty slip of steel. I wonder if a
scrap of blue banding metal tape
I wonder if the blue blades are the same steel coating procedure as bluing a
gun barrel? If so, you can get solution for treating steel at most gun
shops that cater to those restoring firearms.

The K2 internal battery is a gel-cell (or sealed lead-acid) battery, not
NiCd or NiMH, but much of your discussion probably still applies. It
may take a while for the equalization charge to get all the (6) cells
charged to full potential, which is always true, but might be more so

Hi all,
Eric (WA6HHQ) and I will be presenting a talk on kit building at
Pacificon this Saturday from 2:30 to 4:45 PM in the Danville Room.
Since we have a generous time slot, we'll be covering several topics.
I'd also like to extend an invitation to other kit vendors or
manufacturers who

Hello Wayne and group,
It would be nice if someone could record (video?) Wayne Eric's
presentatios and make it (or at least a transcription, such as NJQRP
does for Alanticon)) available( for a suitable fee) for us Eastcoasters
who can't attend Pacificon. I'd buy it. How about it Wayne?
Hi, Wayne--
Is the list of books on the Elecraft website (or can you
post it there)? I also have a little presentation on
kit-building that I give to local clubs and would love to
include that bibliography.
