Ken,
Sounds like you found the source - part of the ground system. I would still
recommend grounding the mic jack in any case - I do that routinely as part
of any K2 that I have on the bench for upgrade.
For what it is worth, in the case of cables, I always look for the source of

Ken,
Wow, a quick perusal of your connections sounds like you may have ground
loop potentials galore in that hookup. I will digest your notes better in
the morning, but at a minimum, yes, you should ground the mic jack.
The directions for grounding the mic jack are around the web somewhere

G'day,
Anyone know what KPA100 firmware v1.10 offers over v1.09?
I have v1.09 which is the minimum requirement for the K60XV module but I
noticed v1.10 was also available.

Ken,
That sounds like something did not get properly soldered, but was making
marginal contact until now. Look for it on the KSB2 board and/or its
connectors to the RF board for the most likely place. You may want to just
reflow the solder joints in case there is one that moved on you while it w

Something similar happened to me when I was building my K2. In my case,
it was a bad PROM chip on the DSP unit. You didn't say whether or not
you have the DSP installed, but I suspect the same sort of problem could
occur with other modules. In my case, as I cycled through the filter

Hi Bruce
No, Ant1/Ant2 is for selecting two main antennas.
You have a menu option for R2 On/Off, or you can
program one of the two option buttons to select
the R2 On/Off menu item, then just punch the
top left panel button to toggle between On and Off.
I find that faster than turning the knob.

The separate receiving antenna is selected via the menu RANT setting (per
band). Ant1/Ant2 is a function of the KATnnn module, and is independent of
the RANT setting. If RANT is on, the 160 antenna is receive and Ant1/Ant2
controls transmit. If RANT is off (on the band in use), then Ant1/Ant2

to connect to the 160 mtr antenna for transmitting? - one switches to

To all who responded with help on sidetone (of lack thereof)
I can't believe how much help I received from you guys on the reflector as to

George,
Go to the menu and edit STL then tap DISPLAY to toggle the sidetone source.
If you don't hear the sidetone with a few taps of the DISPLAY button, there
is something else wrong and another note to the reflector would be in order,
but I would wager that those steps will fix it.
