Hi Dave.
There is a Softrock kit specific for the K3 which includes a xtal at
32.7680Mhz, approx 4 times the K3 IF.
The Kit is not expensive around $15 US.
I have one here but with so many jobs I have not yet the time to get it
up and running.

One thing that must be pointed out, however: When W4ZV posted in early
October, the FLEX-5000A was quoted as having an IMD3 at 2 kHz of 96 dB.
According to the current FLEX website, they are now claiming a 14 MHz IMD3

2 kHz spacing of 100 dB using ARRL measurement methods. This puts

KBPF3s). Yes, they have isolation - although the KRX3 (2nd Rec) is not yet
available for people to have experienced that.

Does anyone know if the K3 will work under

It's in German, it's rather preliminary but looks promising:
http://www.ovc12.de/system/files/dk4yj_k3_mess_1.pdf
English translation: K3 #00067 showed the following:
14MHz band, no preamp, 400 Hz filter
MDS - 136 dBm
IP3 + 25.5dBm at 20 kHz
I have used the TS-50 setting in CTDOS. I think most Kenwood
settings would work for the basics. Things like setting splits with
QSX might vary.

Hi All and Merry Holidays.
I am using the MicroHam CW Keyer between my HP laptop and my K2.
I use three logging programs, and until recently all were working fine. Now
I have lost the rig control function on COM4. COM5 works fine for keying
with a logging program, paddles, or a keyboard.
I am interested in operating on the Army MARS frequencies just above the 80
Meter band edge.
Can anybody tell me how far above the band edge one can transmit without having
to use the
all frequency option?

I see Lisa missed posting that our Aptos HQ would be closed Monday and
Tuesday, 12/24-25, for the holiday. We're giving our staff (several of
whom were in the plant this weekend working on K3s) a well needed 2 days

We will be back in the office on Wednesday and we will also be updating

Thanks Ed but, yes I do have the latest firmware. And the MIC SEL had been
changed several times between rP.H (for SSB) and Line In (for AFSK). Again,
the Line In selection works if I transmit AFSK in LSB mode. But no
modulation when in DATA mode.

I just ran some tests here. The K3 data modes called DATA A and DATA A
REV are working in transmit with LINE IN and should work with any
soundcard mode, including AFSK. The K3 data mode called AFSK appears to
not be working properly in transmit.
Unfortunately, DATA A doesn't work very well
Just for giggles, I connected the headphone jack of the K2 to the input
of an external soundcard that I picked up yesterday. I have been able
to receive RTTY and PSK.
I was just curious, what all I need to do to transmit? I understand I
need PTT and get audio on the mic connector. If I
I've never been convinced that my KNB2 worked as planned. I have the K2 open
today to install the K160RX, and decided to work on the KNB2.
I found the archive messages about scratching Q21. I can only get any noise
out of this with the pre-amp on - don't know if that's as expected or not. No

Tnx for the clarification, Bill. When I read that on the linked site, I read

I installed a KNB2 in my K2 a few months ago. I didn't think it worked until I

The K3 as supplied will transmit to 3.999 MHz but no higher (rig reports END
when you try to transmit).
I understand from earlier postings that extended MARS transmit may be on offer.
