all I have heard is reports like yours. Since the DSP controls the
width and quality of the transmitted signal much more than the IF
filter, I would believe that there is little to no difference at all in

I have used my 1223 on a number of different rigs including the K3 without
any issues that I'm aware of. What exactly do you mean Doug by the
transmitted signal being trashed? I've never had a bad signal quality
report and the dc from the psu on a scope looks fine.

Even if you don't "hear" any hash from a switcher, I would suggest
you look at the transmitted spectrum. As a backup supply I have an
SEC-1223 which "sounds" okay but the transmitted signal is just
trashed. I love my Astron RS-35!

You are completely right. I encourage the use of smaller diameter
solders - it is easier than using solder that is too large. The
eutectic alloys (63/37) are also a great help in eliminating 'cold
solder' connections when the work moves just as the solder is cooling.

One of ways builders get excess flux on the joints is by using too-large
diameter solder. Such solders tend to release more flux per unit of solder
than smaller-diameter solders.
The biggest solder I use on through-hole work is 0.031" diameter, and I have
0.015" solder for small work.

the components. If one floods or sprays the board, some of the cleaner
can and will wick to the component side through the via holes and other

Flux residue will do no harm except under quite unusual circumstances
and it is best left as-is. The greatest 'problem' is one of aesthetics.
Attempts to remove flux can result in damage to components - the cleaner
can get into relays, inductors and cause much more harm that. Fo

I am disappointed that so much front panel real estate was wasted
(six more buttons?) on the phone jack and microphone connector. Two mic
connectors are good but they should both be on the back. If a foster
socket is required then a dongle could be used. I use the phone jack on

you are using, I have a nifty little circuit that converts a standard 1
mA DC milliampere meter to an expanded scale voltmeter reading 11 to 16

would recommend. Meters to tell you what is going on, and it will run the any
