Hi
I've got a small problem with my XV50.
The XV 50's keyline is driving the 2 relay coils that switch my hb 100W
amp in and out. In CW, once in awhile the headphones remain muted for a
few morse elements (maybe a second), but I hear the relays (don't know

Right on, Don. Like Jim, I often turn to the 1N5711 when a 1N34 isn't
available. The 1N5711 has a forward drop of about 0.35 V max. It's very
common and inexpensive here in the USA so I'd expect it to be available
almost anywhere.

I don't see to much need to change the scan rate really. It scans through

tuning rate set before asking it to scan). Then it stops on whatever it

I think the 1N5711 is a suitable substitute. It is not a germanium
diode, but rather a Schottky barrier silicon diode - sometimes called a
"hot carrier" diode. Schottky type diodes have low forward drop and
work well for most RF detector applications, and are readily available

FYI...
If someone says, "I like the low bands," I know that they mean
40/80/160. The "high" bands are (before WARC) 20, 15, and 10.
ON4UN's book, covering operations on 40/80 and especially 160 is
titled LOW BAND DXING.
Right. So the lowest band is TOP BAND. Makes perfect sense.

Chris,
The 1N34 is specified because it is a germanium type and the low voltage
drop of the germanium junction is preferred for accurate readings at low
RF Voltage levels. Other germanium diodes will do that task just as
well. Watch the peak reverse voltage rating for the diode you choose,

I agree the main issue is the shift. If you are looking in 50Hz you can not
use shift, but you can use the CW offset. Musicians might recoil in horror
at a 25Hz error in their sidetone, but it is a reasonable fix for the
moment.
