Time was one could not even apply for an Extra class license until they had
several years of on-air experience.
That's one requirement I'm sorry they dropped.

Judging from what I have seen of the average building and solder quality, I

Some of the worst solder I ever saw was from the old TV repair days.

Even though the radio will put out more than 100 watts the resultant output

It was exciting, years ago, when I upgraded to General (at the FCC

You will still need an accurate dummy load to set the balance on the
KAT2 correctly. If the dummy load is not accurate, the power
calibration will be off as well.
The Elecraft DL2 is a great dummy load.

We're thinking alike I think. I've started with the assembly of the KAT2

Fred,
That dummy load is way off at DC, so who knows what the actual value is
at RF. It could be the only source of your problem.
Specifically, *any* deviation from 50 ohms pure resistive will cause the
basic K2 to indicate (and control) power incorrectly.
That dependency is removed when the K

Mike and All,
You may be right--I haven't watched all that closely--but
what I think I have noticed is that ones selling for the

Typically I see the lower priced ones without internal ATU's

Hi All,
OK, I'm going to assume it was a false alarm. Today when I turned on the

does appear to be band specific as the bands I have not done digital on are
still set to AFSK A, which appears to be the default. So I think w
Hi Gang,
I have another rig (non-Elecraft) with an internal keyer.
And unfortunately its internal keyer tolerances are off at the extreme
ends.

It uses the standard Curtis weighting control scheme (adjust both dot &
dashes at same time).

I am experiencing this intermittently as well. Have not yet found what is
