On this subject I offer the following:
Just today, I attempted to save my K3 configuration using a fresh newly
downloaded K3 Utility. The "save configuration" option failed with the
following notice:

Yes, you can save the configuration using the firmware utility. I
have not noticed many config changes. In the past (many releases ago)
a few items changed on occasion, but I haven't noticed anything like
that for quite a while.

I'm an old ham who has built a lot of kits over the years. I am really
excited though to become an Elecraft user having just received my K3 kit. My
question has to do with instructions to "either brush or blow away any dust
or lint from the front panel area around the encoder shaft".

Hi Jim,
I have your paper and will have another read. I've been meaning to make

The noise has only become noticeable since I increased the sensitivity on

For Art, that day occurred when riveted RCA phono connectors were chosen for
the RF antenna ports on the "S" line -- just as Heathkit did on the HW-101.

Look at the Anderson Powerpole jack on your K3. One of the lugs on mine
was not extended far enough outward to allow it to seat properly because
the lead going to it was too short. Rather than remove the previously

Has anyone found a practical way to secure the Powerpole connection to
the K3? I manage to dislodge mine all too frequently.

Actually, it follows the logical OR of XMIT button and key.

It is Key Out - not amplifier PTT. The difference is sub
That isn't the problem. Even if you have VOX off, hitting the paddles
activates the T/R relay line to the amplifier. It does so even if you
put the K3 into TEST mode. There's no power output, but the amp relay
(and anything else that may be activated by PTT) engages.

If you don't want power output when you hit the key, turn off the VOX while
in CW mode - the rig responds with "PTT" in the message area. To get power
out with VOX off, you must press the XMIT button or active the PTT (with a
footswitch, for example) while keying the paddles.

I figures that you ZL guys would use CW-Rev and prefer hearing the pitch go
down as the frequency goes up. Up here above the equator, the default
setting, CW, seems more natural to us. Now tell me, do whirlpools,
hurricanes and toilet swirlies really run counterclockwise down there as

Vic,
Troubleshooting rule #1 - Suspect what you touched last, and resist the
temptation to jump to conclusions.
I would first suspect a voltage drop at the rigrunner (and its fuse)
rather than a failed PA transistor. Check the voltage at the K2 end
under full current load.

Dear Elecrafties,
I recently whinged about the K3 using the "wrong" sideband for CW, for me
anyway. I prefer tuning from the bottom of the band upwards, hearing
successive CW tones going high-to-low as I go, which requires CW-REV on the
K3. That's fine, until I click on a spot in Logger32: as we
