Dear Elecrafters!
Since few days ago, my K3 (S/N3050) has no response from its RS232 port.
First no frequency data became obtained by Logger32.
Then, I tried to connect by K3 Utility, I tried port refresh, port
test, etc. But no reply from the K3.
I confirmed K3 Utility program is sending polling

You have to tell the K3 to output the 6-meter indicator for the KRC2. Go to the
KRC2 menu entry on the K3. I believe you then need to tap the '1' button on the
K3 to have it select the 6-meter selector. The alternative has the K3 select
the 10 meter selector when tuned to 6 meters. The
The advice I received from tech support was to check the KIO3 daughter
board for any open circuits, and then to check U1 on the KIO3A I/O
board. It is a small surface mount chip, very common, and if you can
try to replace it I would, because a replacement board is $115 plus
shipping. I just

Jon and all,
Tom W8JI caught a problem in my circuit description. The diode across
the transistor will do nothing. Put the diode across the relay coil.
The cathode still goes to the end where the drain connects.

I didn't hear of any new price increases. Do you know what specific products
are subject, or is this increase across the board?

Eric mentioned early this month that the K3 and several other products price
would be increased slightly due to component costs. No exact amount was
mentioned.

Hmmm... What are the BAUD rates for the RS232 and the K3? Do they still match?
You didn't mention that in your post.

The K3 Utility tries all four RS-232 speeds, so that shouldn't matter for

OK all,

We've been shipping P3s to our Field Testers and are in the process of
A large part of Olivia's email is simply copied from Eric's email of the
middle of the month!! If you re-read his email, only the first shipment
estimate has changed from 7/26-7/30 to 7/30 only!! That's not news,
unfortunately.

I read it as great news. FCS is close at any rate. I will be closely
watching the reflector for the actual announcement. Way to go, Elecraft.

I put the DVR into my radio for last year's SSB Nov Sweepstakes, and it
worked great with N1MM. Finally got around to trying the RX Audio

Hello,
The saga of my K2 in the upstairs office and the K3 downstairs in the
shop continues.
Solution:
1. Run coax from the K2 into the attic; run some red/blk zip cord up too.
2. Chop the K3 coax going to the antenna and run the K3 end into the attic.
3. Run the remaining end of the coax from
I would mount a relay with suitable contact rating for the power you will be
using in a small metal box and solder the coax center conductors you cut to
the appropriate relay pins. Join the 3 shields together, and to the metal
box. You won't need any extra connectors. Suitable relay and box
The Top Ten Devices A/B switch will work very well for this
application. It even has a lockout so you cannot steal the antenna
from the currently selected port. You will need a control signal that
pulls to ground to activate the A and B selection. A pair of simple
open collector transistors
That's an idea. I've got a pile of old 110ac relays that would work, but I
really want to avoid kluding this one. (Don't have the time either with a new
K2-build on the bench.
BTW, for any s/n watchers, Elecraft is up into 6990 this week.

I'm glad you can get something positive out of that, Jim. To me, re-hashed,
two week old news is not news at all, much less great news. I'd like
something more concrete, like at least a manual to peruse.

Alan,
I would suggest something a bit more complex than a simple SPDT relay to
switch between the K2 and K3.
Considering that the antenna should be disconnected when not in use, I
would devise a priority scheme - it would take 3 relays. Two would
switch RF between the antenna and a dummy

Yes. The KPA500 has an internal 60-V linear DC supply based on a
toroidal transformer.
