Thanks Brendan and Jeff with good advice, I've done this myself and it works
well.
However, small generators I have seen do not produce mains-quality sinewave
output: it's more triangular and I just want to know if Elecraft are happy
with their kit running on this sort of supply which is also va
It has been since Fall that I have had my K3 up on 1296MHz as we have been
doing major landscaping around the dish (huge rock walls) and the dish had
to be disconnected.
I finally got everything up and running for this evening's moon pass. The
problem is the P3 shows no baseline signal and the

Hi, Fred. Please try the instructions in K3 Utility Help, Troubleshooting
MCU load failure. It has a step by step to get through this.
I presume you're using a straight cable, not through something like a
microHAM router, right?

Whenever I run my gear from a generator (Which in Far Nth Queensland is a fair
bit of the time!) I always run one or two 100Watt spotlights with the genset,
no matter if it is day or night.
On my little genset, which is a 900W continuous load unit, 1 100W floodlight is
enough, the bigger gensets
Well I got the K3 into a weird state and can't load the firmware.
Follow directions in K3 Utility help to force firmware load and
subsequently get this message:

K3 MCU Bootstrap Loader did not echo "D"
Remove K3 power and retry firmware load

The S-Video lines switch the paddles between
It should be fine, about the only thing you may need to do is put a

smoothly with the big changes in load that will go with keying
This would apply with any linear mind you

Look at the trimmer corners - the longer end has rounded corners -
thus the rounded end. The short end has sharp corners which means that
is the flat end.

I know how they are orientated just not which side is considered the flat side.
I have the light blue body caps that have a large flat side and a smaller
tapered flat side. All the pics I googled had the older style where it was
obvious what was the flat side.

Both the TS-570 and TS-870 use an 8.83 MHz IF. Go into the P3's "Xcvr
Sel" menu and select "8830 kHz (inverted)".
The TS-870 does have a wide-band IF output connector, but I believe
you'll have to modify the TS-570 to add one.

Chris,
The P3 has instructions for use with non-K3 rigs.
If you are considering getting a P3, then you can download the P3 manual from:

Hello all:
I expect this topic has already been discussed but I would like to
know where to get information about using the P3 with Kenwood transceivers,
specifically the TS-570 and 870. I appreciate the help in pointing me to
that information. Thanks. Chris Patterson W3CMP
Thanks, Jim, got the message.
Now, I would like to use the K3+KPA500 with an unused Briggs and Stratton
2kVA generator that I fancy for portable work. It's probably the last of
the "old style" ie no inverter technology. I don't expect Elecraft to test
their kit with all and sundry generators

Jorge,
The input to your amplifier is not presenting a 50 ohm load to the transmitter.
Check your amplifier's manual and see if there is a method of adjusting the
input impendence on the amplifier. Some amplifiers will have an adjustment for
several bands. Look at the back of the amplifier and
Hi all,
I recently bought the Elecraft N-Gen intending to use it with Spectrogram for
K2 alignment.
It seems the latest version of Spectrogram is no longer free. Version 5 is
still free. Is this sufficient? Is there a later version which is still free?
Thanks and regards,

WOW! 15 Meters sounds like it did 50 years ago when I got my license. Wide
open to Europe with 599 signals all over the band.

I have a K3 with internal VHF transverter, assembled by factory.
When I key (PTT) my K3 in USB on VHF with my amplifier my power supply is

Your explanation of the issues surrounding QSK in the K3 is well worth the

There is no such implication, I think that's just the generator he had

serious voltage sags whilst the generator
