Good morning all
I have seen some postings of EXPERT 1k users here on the reflector, I need
your help.
A friend has a K3 and a P3. Now he wants to connect his EXPERT PA to this
combo. The problem: The K3 RS232 is occupied by the cable to P3, both P3
RS232 are occupied by Cables to k3 and PC.
Dear Peter,
Your friend needs to make a Y-cable from the K3 to the Expert according to
the Expert manual so the Expert can listen but not transmit via this cable.
And remember the Expert is slow so you have to select the right
communication speed. I do not remember exactly but I believe it is
The SPE Expert has the standard BCD band data interface as well. You can
just feed the band data outputs of the K3 to the SPE Expert and not even use
the RS232 interface.

This is the way I have my K3/P3 combination connected to the 1k-FA, and it

Purely as a matter of interest, how much current does the KPA500 draw on CW key

Does anyone know if Rose is making a padded, soft case for the KX3 that will
protect it inside a backpack?

In fact, Phil, my K3/10 probably qualifies as QRP full-time though I
do get 16w out at max on 2m. I think you will notice the difference
the first time I check-in at 300w ;-) Still haven't started work on that kit.
My current interest is modifying and older DEMI 2m transverter to be
ready

My KPA500 is as follows:

Current: 10.3 Amps at 500 watts indicated on LEDs
Idling current: (key down - no modulation) 400 ma
Voltage at 500 watts: 59.8v
Power as indicated on display: 530 watts
Power dialed in on K3: 39 watts
Power source: 240v

Is there any plans for a matching power supply for the K3?

Rose...
I have a couple of your K3 soft cases (happy with 'em!) and will
want a carry-case of some sort for my putative KX3. I will definitely
have the paddle option, and would possibly want extra space for mic
and for a small power supply and other stuff. Altogether, the space in

Hmm, this works out to an efficiency of 87%!
Not sure I believe that.

I likely will not get a KX3 ... KX1 and K2 pretty much fill my needs ...

There is a 4 watt discrepancy between the 39 watts dialed in the K3 and the

attached directly to the output of the K3 (using a double male connector)
with a 5 foot length of RG8 coax to the input of the KPA500. The

the old rigs - it kept the efficiency up.)
