did people do about signal reports before they had S meets to read? Bear in
mind that this question is mostly rhetorical. I don't bother with S meter
readings myself, but I do try to give honest signal reports anyway.
I bought a 100-ft roll of S-Video cable from www.allelectronics.com, part
number CB-285. Price is $18. This is a black, round cable that includes
two internal shielded cables. This is good stuff - relatively small and
flexible.

Having used rx that didn't have S-meters, and those that do... then I find a
great rx that makes all the calibration of my internal S meter rather an
interesting conflict to watch, when using a fine tuned K2, with either analog
or dsp filtering.. I find the internal S meter goes from 229 to

You hit it right on the head. Hooking up my W2 (only calibrated as it is
programmed by Elecraft), then p ressing TUNE (very) momentarily pegs the met er
on the 20 W scale! So the K2 is putting out plenty of RF but cannot control
the power out. Where do I look next?
Thanks again
Hi,
I used cable from Heil to make up a lead for my Heil GM2 hand mike. The cable
is nice and floppy.

I bought a 10' length from the shop that I bought the mic from. The PTT pair
is outside the screening for the mic pair to try and keep
Here is a dual-meter fwd, refl, swr meter face I made for the W1:

The black is forward power, blue reflected, and the cross point shows an
swr of around 4.5. (K1 untuned into a random wire.) The challenge that
prompted me to make this
Of course, RST readings started by ear but one of the first ways to
automate the strength report was used by an early National SW-3 regen from
the late 20's or early 30's. It had a volume control calibrated in S
units. You adjusted it for comfortable listening and looked at the knob for
the signal
It's been nearly a century since the T report had any meaning, yet we
Hams still use it.
It's a shame Tone doesn't mean something these days ... there's still a
place for accurate reports. There's a 9Y with a very whoopy sounding
note, and an N4 this weekend that was all broadband noise -
Hello to the group. Well, what can I say. I've been a ham for many years but
have never worked a CW contest before. Well, I've had the opportunity to spend
some time in Hawaii and I just happened to be here for the ARRL CW contest. I
took the K3 and Buddipole antenna with me to Hawaii. I
