Looking into refining my use of the LP-Pan on the 1st IF of the
K3. One artifact is that the spectrum of the IF has a gain dip at
the center frequency which apparently is due to interaction of the
2.8 KHz roofing filter that is also loading the IF.
I am wondering if I might be able to program

I've inadvertently activated a feature I need to undo. Last night I
was making changes with config and it may have happened at that time
but I'm locked on a frequency and can't seem to change it. When I
move the sub receiver frequency with dial B, it shows me the voltage,
time, PLL1, PLL2,

Just to the right of VFO A, one up from the bottom, is the rate/lock
switch. Hold it to lock/unlock the VFO.

I have just received my custom carrying case from Rose, N7HKW. It's designed to
hold both my K2/100 and the KAT100 tuner, along with a couple of side pockets
for small accessories. The quality and workmanship are great! Now I won't have
any fears of scratching or dinging the equipment since the

Hi All,
The P3 Panadapter if provided an I.F. should be able to work with a rig
other than the K3.
Has anyone modified a K2 for this?
Do we know if the KX3 has an output option for setup with the P3
Panadapter?
Thanks

Hi All,
I am not a contester.
I enjoy digging faint signals out of the noise.
I'm wondering what your experience with the KX3 is compared to the K3
and K2 in that regard.
If there is a significant improvement in capturing weak signals over the
K2, I might put the KX3 on my Christmas wish list. :)
I have to agree with John.
I have one of Rose's cases that I use for my K3.
I will be going to St. Croix Nov. 1 for the 3rd time with my K3 and Rose's
carrying case.

Some time ago there was plenty of discussion on suitable 10 MHz frequency
standards. The Trimble Thunderbolt was one of several that were mentioned.
I have medium range plans on using WSJT modes on hf and vhf in the future

Hello all, Tom here. I am new to all-things Elecraft and have been looking
at the K3 vs KX3 options. I spoke with David at Elecraft this morning, and
he was most helpful. He also suggested that I post here to ask for opinions.
I've also been searching the forum archive as well, and will continue
Through tuner (Manual Palstar) to antenna, through tuner to dummy load,
dummy load direct to KPA500. Makes no difference.

Same thing with drive from 10 watts up.
Tuner shows 1:1, rig shows 1:1. Amp sees
You are going to get a ton of answers but here's my take (and I own both).
It all depends on what you want to do. I would compare it to the choice
of a laptop computer vs a desktop or a 5-shot 38 revolver vs a 13-round
45 semi-auto. Either one will get the job done but they have different
The price for a K3 build would be $500-1000 more than that for a
KX3, but if this is my primary radio...is that money well-spent at
this point?
Absolutely. Unless you are looking for a trail/backpack radio, the
added flexibility, features and user interface of the K3 is hands
down superior
Do I understand right that high power is the key. In other words, you can
run low power through the amp with the amp in bypass? The first thing I
look for when this happens is something arcing under high power. Check your
connectors. Once you arc a connector it will often have a carbon trace on
it

Cables have been checked into a dummy load by SWR analyzer (realize this

Tom,
So far I think you have gotten some good advice and opinions but I would

radios you will own.

finished putting it together 4 days ago. I am
Thanks Phil...
I agree that the K3 does indeed seem like the way to go at this point, and the
extra $$ is probably money well-spent. But that leaves me with another
dilemma...how to outfit the K3?
Here's the basic order I came up with today. After talking David at Elecraft, I
added the 100w
I am a new ham (22 months) and own both radio models (actually two K3s and one

other it would be the K3 over the KX3.
For reasons already cited including modular flexibility and tailor-ability, my

I have a base (12 watt) K3 and find 5 watts quite adequate for
my mostly PSK operation. With the sunspots the way they are, I
can reach the south Pacific on a good night. Narrow band modes
like CW and PSK work well with low power.
I spent my extra cash on the T1 tuner, the 2M option, the FM
Does anyone know of any apps for android for a KX3 and interface cables? I
am especially interested in an app which will do psk31. The phone would be
a Motorola Razr.

Hi Tom,
What are this CW stuff you are talking about below? If it is narrow
roofing filters for CW, then I think you can definitely leave these off
until later, and just rely on the K3 DSP filtering for now. I think the
only thing you really need to add to a basic K3 in order to do CW is a

Panasonic is supplying the batteries for the Tesla Model S. I believe A123
