I plan to use a short length of RG400 which is double braid shielded and
flexible. It fits perfectly in a PL-259 with a RG59 reducer...and is
commonly available at Hamfests in short lengths for a few dollars.

Hi there. Any particular model of headset, to recommend for use with
the KX3?
Right now, I'm using a Plantronics ".Audio 500" headset, which is nice
because it has stereo RX (good for the KX3's audio effects) and it has
convenient small analog connectors (perfectly compatible with the KX3).

I picked up a straight key at a flea market, and it works great for CW
with the KX3. Set the "CW KEY1" and "CW KEY2" menu items to "HAND", and
it worked the first time! Very responsive, I'm impressed.
However, I was disappointed that it did not work for voice. I keyed
down, and nothing happened
My KXPD3 arrived today and I installed the "Light" spring and new
contacts and had much better accuracy after the upgrade than I did
with the original setup.
Impressive!

I received the KXPD3 Upgrade Kit for my serial number 0325 today. Easy
modification; no problems.
I installed the "light" spring (E980239).
In my opinion, and comparing it to the week I was able to spend with a
Begali "Adventure" prototype last month, it now compares quite
favorably.

I have decided to part with my K2/10 and Ten Tec 1026 6M transverter.

First, thank you Elecraft for providing this free of charge. This

Dwight (NS9I) showed me his LP-PAN set-up this past week, and it's very nice
indeed. I would have absolutely no problem going with that either. I was
advised by David at Elecraft that the K3 module needed (I forgot the part
number) is needed regardless if you go with the LP-PAN or the P3 itself
Yesterday I had a personal demo at Elecraft by Paul, their P3 engineer of the
P3 SVGA. All I have to say is WOW Why would anybody, with a K3, consider

Anyone can send 50 WPM using the KX3's internal RTTY and PSK31 modes
(FSK-D and PSK-D). Just program up to six message buffers for contest
exchanges and use those instead of the key.

Hello Tom,
I went back and forth on this toobuy a P3 and SVGA adapter or an LP-Pan.
I finally decided to go the P3 route for several reasons:
1) It's self contained and I don't have to tie up the shack computer
running another application. I already have two monitors on the shack
PC and
I did not monitor PA temps, but the exchanges for the contest are pretty
short, so not much of a stress. Thanks for reminding me of that, I now
recall Wayne suggesting 5W max for continuous duty modes like RTTY and PSK.

I've never been into any mode other than CW, but this morning I tried
RTTY and PSK31 on the KX3 for the first time.
I too was very impressed. Very well implemented on the KX3 and I
particularly like being able to use the CW paddle for input. I don't
like being tied to the computer for this work (
A brief followup: this only occurs with the DL1. I tried it just now going
through my LDG antenna switch to a dummy load, and everything works as it
should.
As I originally said, it's just a quirk specific to my DL1.

Any problems running RTTY at full power? PA heat? Or are you running it

Right...good points. I ordered the module needed to support either the P3 or
the LP-PAN, but I didn't make the final decision just yet. But still, the
LP-PAN wouldn't be a bad way to go for less money, and then just add the
monitor to another video card. The monitor would be needed for the P3 a

One suggestion: you may want to consider the P3 (and if you really want the

I'm very impressed with the RTTY mode in this little bugger. It is doing a
