[Elecraft] K2 Front Panel Resistance Check Readings :(

2019-08-18 Thread W0CD
I'm running into a problem with the resistance checks for the K2 Front Panel Board. Specifically, I'm getting 0 reading from J1(1) - J1(7) and J1(12) - J1(14). My readings: PIN // Expected // Actual U1(1) // 25k-35k // 29.4k (GOOD) U1(2) // 25k-35k // 29.5k (GOOD) U1(3) // 40k-60k //

[Elecraft] KXPA100 Question

2019-08-18 Thread Grant Youngman
Just got a shiny new KXPA100. I’m using “tight” integration with my KX3. The one downside I’ve observed is that when PA Mode is On, the cursor display on the PX3 gets jerky and doesn’t follow well. It isn’t terrible, just jerky. I assume this is the result of the KXPA adding data load thro

James, I would not worry about the reading at J1 pin 15, but the others indicate a problem. I do not know of your soldering skills, but it would seem that your solder is bleeding over enough to contact the ground plane that surrounds the connector and other solder pads on the board. If you

Grant, Don’t know if it’s normal behavior but my setup is exactly like yours and the behavior is the same. Especially noticeable at a high tuning rate. I bought the KXPA100 from an individual but it had never been used, essentially new. Don, K5DW Sent from my iPad > On Aug 18, 2019, at 1:16 P

Don … Thanks. That answers my question. You’re right, it’s close enough if you’re tuning slowly, but if you try to tune quickly the PX3 cursor doesn’t follow so well. Grant NQ5T KX3 (8342)/KXPA100 > On Aug 18, 2019, at 4:30 PM, Donald Wines wrote: > > Grant, > > Don’t know if it’s normal

Grant, Something else I've noticed since getting the KXPA100 is the Select knob on the PX3 gets flaky if it's turned too fast. It seems to work fine if you turn it slowly. For instance when setting the Ref Level if the Select control is turned very fast the display just jitters and doesn't change

I fiddled with it a bit, and really didn’t notice any major changes in how the PX3 controls function. Not that there aren’t any. The simple solution is to simply set PA Mode: Off when generally tuning around. Grant NQ5T KX3 (8342)/KXPA100 > On Aug 18, 2019, at 5:30 PM, Donald Wines wrote: >

Don, Thanks. I see quite a few others on this board have had the same problems in the past. I'm wondering if my multimeter is reading 0 ohms due to infinite resistance. I'll take a look at my soldering and see what I find. I didn't notice much during my previous look last night. For reference: h

If the reading is actually zero - like when the leads are touched to each other, then that is zero ohms, an indication of a short. OTOH, if the reading is blank or whatever your ohmmeter reads when the leads are attached to nothing, then that is an indication of infinite resistance or something

Should have searched on Nabble first. Finally found some discussion of this PX3 cursor lag issue when running a KXPA100 back in 2017. Elecraft apparently recognized it as a bug, and talked about a fix, but I guess nothing has been forthcoming. Grant NQ5T KX3 (8342)/KXPA100 > On Aug 18, 2019,

What are you seeing on your DMM display? Many DMMs show a blank display for an infinite resistance, while others show a "+" and others show "OL". Look at your DMM display when the leads are separated. That is infinite resistance. If the display actually shows "0", (same as with the leads shor
