I have finally started to install this kit as I needed to pop the rig open to
fix a problem and wonder if I'm missing a part. When I opened the plastic
envelope, I have four parts: 2 resistors, the LCD display, and the
Backlight (with pins A K). According to the parts list, I should have a
I guess I should have been a little more explicit in my trouble shooting. The
problem of power dropping to zero was on all bands which seemed to eliminate
the filter board. The problem had happened once a year or so ago when I
posted a question relating to Lo Po display (I have the KAT2) but
Was operating the ARRL CW contest and output on my K2 QRP rig dropped to
zero. Bummer. Anyway, I took it to the bench and started to check it out
when it began to work. Put it back together and took it to the operation
position and it failed. I'm thinking a cold solder joint or something.
I have had the same problem. It is most annoying to see the K2 picture
(ain't she pretty!) on the HRD webpage and not get mine to work with my XP
machine over the serial-to-USB converter.
After a lot of tests, I have concluded that there is something amiss in the
converter and the HRD software.

There are several threads on the N1MM logger reflector that relate to
a weakness with Prolific drivers/chip for USB/serial converters,
perhaps exacerbated by operating system
with not responding to delayed
replies to queries. Just on the surface of it that could make for
some baffling problems. Perhaps a bit of time in their archives would
be useful.

I've decided to take the plunge into digital modes and 'found' the RTTY mode
(and extra set of filters) in the SEC menu. There is still much about my 1
year old K2 that I'm still finding out. What a radio!
When I went in to set the filters in RTTY mode and decided to check the SSB
filters as
