[Elecraft] K3 issue

My k3 keeps losing its mind. One day it won't transmit SSB - I can whistle up 100W but speech gives 5W of avg and ~15W peak. On another day it says "KAT500 not turned ON". I have a KPA500 but no KAT500. My fix for both these has been to do a factory reset and reload my last saved configuration --

I'd like to thank W4NZ and DL5RBW who correctly identified the problem as a bad FET in the LPA. Identification and replacement of the offending part (a G-S short) took only a little longer than that needed to remove and replace the bottom panel. 73, -- Dick - K4XU

Okay, I need to be more specific about my "bad audio".. The audio is raspy, like it has rf in it. It is independent of frequency, power, mic type, recorded or not, Hi or Lo mic gain setting, and mic drive level. The only other issue I have is that the low power carrier is 5W when the PWR is set
