This is a question I've been wanting to ask...
I've had a KPA500 for 4 years and I've noticed that 20 meters requires
more drive. Most bands require 30 watts or less, but 20 requires 35-37
for 500 watts out. In the phone portion of 20, an SWR of 1.4:1 WILL
cause a fault. It's just real sens
Looks like the Kenwood switches high during transmit and the KPA500
requires a low for transmit. KPA500 specs in my manual say +5V max, open
circuit on receive, closed to ground on transmit. My old KPA500 manual
doesn't show Kenwood interconnections. Only the K3, Yaesu and Icom.
Yup, ya need
I have clicking, but it doesn't following the keying. (Maybe you meant
AFTER keying.) It happens after a long transmission...for the most
part. It has to do with flexing of the heatsink or other parts of the
chassis when the unit heats and cools. I believe it's been covered here
before.

plug? That would be too easy. 270 and 60 volts run to the PA assembly.
You would have to isolate the PA assembly from the power supply for
troubleshooting.
Give Elecraft a call and they will help you out!

Seems to be a threshold around 25 watts. for the two bands I checked. I
drive my amp with 13 watts on 30 for 200 out, so in standby, I don't
show any power.

Look on page 9. The asterisk indicates a valid PA key signal.
Underscore indicate INHIBIT.

My wife was out at the cabin with the gals the weekend I built mine. I
had 4 cupcake tins full of parts all over the kitchen, and nothing was
missing. It was a glorious weekend!

I thought about this for a couple seconds... I have seen some rigs have
a rather large difference in power out between mark and space tones.
With a small difference in drive I would expect to see a large
difference in power out of the amp with these radios. I've also heard
some radios with a
My specs:

Temp has got up to 52c @ 300 watts.
Haven't seen any warnings, but the fan kicks in more often as expected.
I'm uneasy running it at 500 watts during a contest.

It would be nice for the amp to go to STBY, so I can make sure the
auto-tuner is good to go.
