Same Here. After examination under magnification, My #249 has a crack on
the Main volume control knob. It works fine, and I would not have
noticed it unless I checked it with a magnifier.

Hi Steve,
Are you sure it is WCER you are hearing? I am about 20 miles from Canton
and I do not hear anything at all on 1800 Khz. However, I do hear their
signal on 900 Khz S9 Plus.

You may want to try setting AGC PLS=OFF. I notice the same thing when
this setting is on. With this setting on, It appears to me that the AGC
pulse rejection will cause the AGC to react too quickly on some CW
elements .

Unfortunately, without knowing on which frequency you were listening to
WWV, it’s difficult to gauge your K3’s temperature stability. Were you
listening on 5, 10, or 15 MHz?

Hi Steve,
I have not noticed anything like this. In fact yesterday I did some
measurements of drift in order to see if the 1 ppm TXCO would be a
worthwhile upgrade. I used spectrogram to measure the drift while tuned
to WWV. From a cold start, until warm up, the Front panel temperature
rose 1

I had a similar problem and setting AGC PLS to off in the menu seemed to
fix it for me. With AGC PLS on, it seemed to cause something that sounds
similar to AGC overshoot now and then when using CW.

Hi Stewart,
Although I have not ran all the tests you did, I also noticed that there
is a significant difference in tone response between LSB and USB. I also
tried adjusting FL FRQ with about the same results as you got. My 5
pole 2.7 filter does not seem to have a very flat response. I have

Hi Charles,
I believe that the AGC PLS menu setting in tech mode has an effect on
how the AGC handles short duration pulses. You may want to try changing
that to see if

For clarification, the K3's internal tuner *does* reduce the power

talking about using an external tuner with the TUNE button, which does
put out whatever power the radio is set to.
