I currently have the bare bones KX1. I also have but have not
built/installed the 3080 kit.
I'm planning on getting/building/installing the ATU.
Question:
Does it matter what order these are done? Should one be done before the
other?

to Rev E. (new kit is $99 but
don't know if they sell an upgrade kit - sort of depends on the
differences.)

Gee, Tom, are you going to miss her? (hi-hi - couldn't resist).
I know the feeling and I don't understand it. This is NOT junk. Well, to
us, anyway. To her, maybe.
Good luck on your endeavors.

For those of you who will be going to Atlanticon this weekend, I will have
either a sample kit for the KXB3080 or a finished board. (I was hoping to
have tomorrow off to put it together but that is looking doubtful now.
I will have it both Friday night at the Elecraft table (next to checkin)
Wow, from what I (briefly) saw at that link, why would anyone want to use
LiPos? Yes, they may provide some advantages but the disadvantages/risks
would certainly (in my mind) overwhelm the advantages.
Just my .02.

(This is embarrasing but funny.)
K2 #3120 is finally alive and well.
Build time approximately 120 hours (that's a rough guess)
LAPSED TIME:
Years - 2.88
Days - 1052
Hours - 25248
I remember getting this rig on Christmas morning Dec 2002. I also remember
taking it on a car trip that
I couldn't find this anywhere that I looked.
Does anybody know off the top of your head the parts count of the KX1 and
the various options?
I'm considering adding this to my Christmas list.

Jess, you should also look at the PAC-12 from Pacific Antennas. Packs
smaller than the other two (Buddipole and MP-1). And does very nicely on
all bands.

Jeff, those are VERY, VERY nice paddles. They look commercial. Maybe you
should go into business.

But, Dave, if you had let him eat the parts, you could plug the radio in one
ear and plug an antenna in another ear..

Eric, I was hoping someone would say this. You certainly brought out some
great points. I, too, hope they keep it together.

Now that is a cool boat.
(sorry, this starting to go OT but so cool. grin)
Joe, you should plan this trip for the summer with a special QSL for
contacting you on the boat. That is so neat.

1) Mine may be going bad:
I suspect my temp controlled soldering station is going south on me. In
building my K2, I've noticed that it takes longer to get the solder flowing.
Are there any _cheap_ but somewhat accurate ways of testing a station like
this? (Sorry, don't remember the brand name
I'm thinking about asking for a new mic for Christmas. Is there a nice (but
not big $$$) mic that will work on the K2, the 703 and the 817? I'm
assuming that I would need several adapters but that is ok.
I'm leaning towards a Heil type mic. Probably a hand-held or headset. (But

cash, MO.
If PayPal, they take approx $4.00 of this so add $2.00. (I don't like
PayPal any better than most people but it sure is convenient.)
Questions welcome.

Last week I was at my friendly RS getting a new alarm clock. Lost my old
one.
They had a special sale on the RS version of an Atomic portable alarm clock.
Only $20. And it is a nice size for packing or for on the desk. Normally
$30, I think. Nice clock with super lighting. Number is 63-964.
That's certainly going to hurt eHam's chances of getting more articles from
people. I didn't read the article but if you start applying censurship, you
lose writers very quickly. And supporters, I would imagine.
Now if his advertisers forced him to remove the article, that is just as
bad.
