Hi All,
One source of easy-to-use automotive type relays is Elk
Products. They make home security/automation products and I've used
them extensively for that purpose but also the relays are generally
useful. See

Hi All,
Below is a compilation of the tips that Ed, KE7HGA, received to date
in response to his post. I found they provided information that was
very valuable. I've copied and pasted them into a single document
for my own reference and decided the group, especially those of us

Thanks for the answer, guess I was too close to the trees...

Yesterday's post regarding using DIGOUT1 peaked my interest so I
consulted the manuals and schematic and there is a hardware DIGOUT0
but no reference as to what it is for or how to control it. My radio
was somewhere else so haven't had a chance to look in the menu to see
if it is there in fact
I'm curious which way the clock is off, fast or slow?
There is a dedicated clock IC on the front panel board which has a
fixed capacitor across the 32.768 KHz crystal. The data sheet for
the PCF8563 clock IC states that that capicator can made a trimmer to
set the frequency exactly. Of course
The RTC IC has a low voltage detector which sets a bit in the seconds
register. Thus (from the IC data sheet):
8.5 Voltage-low detector and clock monitor
The PCF8563 has an on-chip voltage-low detector. When VDD drops below Vlow the
VL bit (Voltage Low, bit 7 in the Seconds register) is set to
Hello All,
Looking forward to having it on the air and really enjoying this part
too. This K3 will be my home rig for now and my cruising rig on RED,
our sailboat, in a couple of years.
