Go for it, you'll really enjoy assembling a K2. Suggest you start with a
basic K2 plus the K2SB SSB board and a K2AT antenna tuner.
Use a good power supply. I use an Elpac 6 amp model that I picked up at
a Hamfest for $10.00

I have never had the fan in my KPA100 activate, it never gets warm
enough here in Southern Ontario. I doubt that your New England
temperatures are much different than here.
Forget about the fan operation and use your K2/100.

use the Heil mics that were available from Elecraft some time ago. I
work all kinds of DX, establishing contact usually on the first or
second call, even in pile-ups. No change in the resistance in my KSB2
boards

I have been upgrading the captioned K2 for a friend.
I installed new matched xtals in the entire rig as well as the KSB2 module.
I replaced U6 the MCU on the Control board and U1 the IOC on the RF Board.
I did not upgrade U1, the IC Microcontroller on the KSB2 Board.
The KSB2 now is not working p

Suggest that you advise the serial number of your K2.
Later models incorporate mods to the KSB2 SSB module and the main cct
board which greatly improve the transmitted audio.
Pull up the Elecraft website and look at the ordering page for details
if your S/N is under 04000.

I too have hearing problems. I find the audio produced by the stock K2
lacking. I built up an external speaker and amplifier using an Elecraft
EC2 enclosure,

I burn off the insulation using a GC brand "Snap Vacuum Solder Popper".
Heat the iron, melt a bit of solder into the hole into the tip end,
insert the wire into the small hole at the iron tip up to the edge of
the toroid, allow the wire to heat until the insulation burns off, about

May I recommend that if you add a linear amp. that you go for the
Elecraft KPA100 , it's a very well engineered unit and positively works
beautifully with the K2. 100 wats is all you need, believe me. Put your
money into a good antenna.
