Re: [Elecraft] OT: Bird Wattmeter "meter failures"

2015-11-21 Thread lmarion
The Bird wattmeter is a coarse and loose measurement device. It is the most overrated power meter, especially in the amateur community. The calibration is only possibly five percent at a single frequency, usually the center frequency of the slug. Away from that frequency it rapidly goes way

Re: [Elecraft] Soldering crimped connectors is not a good thing.

2015-11-05 Thread lmarion
I have the proper tools. Over time the joints have become intermittent. The joints I properly crimped and soldered have never become intermittent. I guess the molecular bond with solder is greater ; ) Leroy -Original Message- From: Robert Harmon Sent: Thursday, November 05, 2015

My experience/thoughts as well Phil. I still have a lot of fun with K2 SN 40. But since I got the KX3, I have made the K2 with transverter my 6m rig . I have all options including the DSP and I like it. Leroy AB7CE -Original Message- From: Phil Wheeler Sent: Thursday, November 05,

Re: [Elecraft] This Sunday's SSB Net Cancelled

2015-09-24 Thread lmarion
If there is interest, I could do a retro net from Montana. By that I mean, back to what started it all. A QRP SSB 10 watts on my K2 SN 40. On my 160 mtr loop I will hear most of you and the 20 mtr beam is there to help you hear me. Since the K2 has the capability to listen on the loop

I have built every K2 option there is. Definitely the KDSP2 is the way to go. If you are going CW only, the QRO options are not needed, unless you are severely antenna restricted. Leroy AB7CE K2 serial number 40 -Original

If you want to work more DX than you ever thought possible: 1. Learn enough CW to do basic exchanges. Your speed and proficiency will increase dramatically by just doing it. 2. Get on 30 meters. Other countries have not abandoned CW like the USA has. You will work DX after DX station. You

15 meters is a very overlooked band in my opinion. Its open way more than 10 meters. Its quiet, lots of room. Easy 23 foot dipole antenna and a KX3 and you are working the world, CW or SSB. And if you can get 48 feet of wire loop up somewhere, you will be astonished. I can always find DX CW on

Hi all, Do CW nets operate similar to SSB nets? I would like to learn how. I checked into a couple, but I think I was out of order. They graciously worked me in, but I think I was not going by the working format. I listened, but am not good enough at CW to be sure I am doing things
