I just acquired a K-3 and have spent an hour getting somewhat familiar. I
tuned 20 M and heard a nice DX station at about S-6 using the USB filter
setting. I realized I can only transmit CW with the mode set to CW. When I made

Maybe the cause is the following:
listening on 14050 to a cw signal with pitch 1kHz in USB, then the
cw-signal is on 14051.
Switching the K3 to CW with untouched dial, then you listen on 14050.
Is that the reason?

Bill,
Based on my experience with the K3, an hour is nowhere the time needed to
get familiar with the rig.
I've had mine for almost a year and am learning new things all the time.
That said, I have and am using it daily in DX chasing and consider it the
finest rig I have ever owned.

Over the years I've owned nearly a dozen ham rigs. I ALWAYS begin by
studying the manual. As a result, I have nearly always found them easy
to use and understand. The exceptions have been a fewf products that

Personally I send as slow as 18wpm and as high as 35 wpm . . ., and enjoy the

I agree. I prefer CW+ to CW for use at 18-25 wpm with a paddle. CW+ is close to

should be.

The K3 uses slow AGC during CW text decode,
overriding the selected AGC setting.
I believe that I read somewhere in the manual that when decoding, the
AGC defaults to slow.

Gary,
I can confirm that - it is at the bottom of the left column on page 31.
Serge's observation is how it is intended to work and not a problem.

That's the beauty of searching the .pdf version of the
manual, instead of reading the paper version.
In this case, about the fifth click on AGC shows the
desired info.
