Bill's plight is a reminder to those who do go out in the field, if
possible, bring electronic documentation if you have a device that can
read a PDF... (smart phone, tablet, netbook, etc).

I assume the K3 rather than the KX3.
Simply tapping the RIT button should be sufficient to turn on RIT.
Initially the green LED will light (indicating zero offset), and then as
you rotate the RIT/XIT knob, one or the other of the yellow LEDs will
light indicating negative RIT offset or
When I need to find information quickly, I find the electronic version
superior to a printed manual.
In this case, typing RIT into the Adobe reader search window finds every
instance of rit in the manual. Just a few clicks takes you to RIT on page
11 that reads RIT/XIT (pg. 16): Three switches

I don't know how fast his internet is. A few days ago in Goose
Bay, Labrador, my download speed and response was so slow I
couldn't download a large email. The K3 manual is 13.1 megabyte,
over an order of magnitude larger than that email.

Actually there's a Web Res version, for that purpose, which is
1.8Mb. There's an error on the website, it seems, where both versions
are marked Web Res - one of them is, I assume, supposed to be Print
Res... the difference (I'm assuming again) being lower-resolution
images, to make the file

that is only an assumption, I have not downloaded the 12.4 MB version.
ASFAIK the only difference between the two is the resolution in the
images. Since I have no intent to enlarge the images in the manual and
