Maybe Elecraft removed the link.

The YouTube video is cute but not sure it is really helpful.
What I did find helpful was the compilation of construction tips on the old
K3 Wiki, which has sadly been shut down.

Many tips that have come in over the years have been incorporated into the

Build the K3 just like you walk, one step at a time, and it will go right
together. At this point a great many K3 kits have been assembled quite
successfully by very average Hams, some as their
*Ron,
No doubt a major part of their success is the well written assembley
manual...:-)
now I wonder who wrote it?

It largely depends on your skill level and organization skills. I had mine up
and running in under five hours with regard to actual assembly and calibration
time. Parts inventory, layout and reading the assembly manual took an
additional two hours. So, eight hours is a reasonable estimate
Steve,
Took me two days, probably 10hrs or so in total.
Be sure to check all errata for every building manual.

The power screwdrivers we use in the factory are high performance commercial
units that have a finely adjustable torque clutch that limits how far each
screw is tightened. This insures both a consistent assembly of the radio and
that the screws are never overtightened.

It took me 8 hours and I did not rush. I think the average is about 8 hours.
I found it fairly easy although I forgot to put in one screw and had to take
the front panel board thing off and do it again. But, that only cost me about
15 minutes.

8 hours seems to be the consensus! Just be sure to sort all the parts before
you start...there are a lot of them! Did mine with another ham over two
weekends, and it was just over the 8 hours! But we didn't hurry

I have assembled two, and I'd allocate about 8 hours in no fewer than two
sessions. inventory the small fasteners into some sort of containers and watch
out for minor screw size differences and use the one described in the assembly
instructions rather than the one just like the previous screw.
Hi Dick,
As an owner of a 3 year old factory built K3 I kind of knew that they used
power screwdrivers in the assembly. One day I plan to perform surgery on
the one remaining front panel screw that I was unable to remove. Doing the
DSP board swap was an adventure.

4-40 screws are really quite easy to twist in half with a power screwdriver.
That's easy to fix if you have a spare. It's also easy to rip the threads
out of the PEM nuts. That's not so easy to fix.
That's why Wayne was clear that we should specify *no* power screwdriver in
the assembly manual.

Got mine last January. It took me 2 football playoff games plus about 1
hour. Works great. I now have a P3 and KPA500. A lot less time for them.
