Egads, $35 + shipping for a 6 cable that can be made for a few bux.

Well, maybe.
But there are people that don't have the time/skill but have the money
and are willing to pay the price ;)

Cost of labor and a commercial retail source. For a while DIY wasn't
that much of a difference.

A CC-1XLR-K isn't just a 6 cable.
It's an 8 footer using high quality mic cable with a 3 pin XLR connector on one
end and an 8 pin mic connector with 1/4 PTT plug on the other end.
Well worth it to me...

For as little as $50.00 plus postage you can get a Yamaha CM-500 that
sounds terrific and is Plug N Play...now that's a better deal...
Just my 2 cents worth, you can keep the change...(Grin)

If I would set mic gain to 22 with my HC5 I would overmodulate.
In my case gain 12 and comp 25 is just fine, however it might
differ with how one sets the TX EQ. With this setting I get
full PEP power.

l liked HC5 because it did not need any equalization (except during contest)
and had low noise pickup.
Mic gain about 17. Comp set to 15-20 during causal QSO, 24 when DXing or
poor propagation, and 28-30 when contesting or in pileup.

Isn't there a high and low gain setting, besides just the
numerical gain??

I've settled down on the HC-5 as the best sounding SSB TX audio. It was after
spending the time to determine that this was the right answer for the K3.
The TX equalizer should be tailored based on your own voice to give it the best
fidelity. Because of my great audio, I get asked what mic I'm
