Actually, the main reason for delay on the KPA800/1500 Amps was the K3.
Almost 12 months ago we decided that we could not bring both the
amplifiers and the K3 to market at the same time. It would be just too
much of a strain on the company, both fiscally and engineering resource
wise. We made t
The amps also had to undergo additional re-engineering to become RoHS
compliant.

Yea, the KPA talk did disappear pretty suddenly. I suspect the amps
have been temporarily shelved in favor of focusing all resources on the
K3.

I stopped reading this reflector nearly a year ago, when I became
involved in an international relocation. When I left, the KPA800 and

I guess this is a question for Wayne and Eric.
I am on the market for a linear amp and I would love to buy an Elecraft amp
instead of Tokyo Hi-Power for instance. I am not in a terrible rush but I would
really like to do it in the next 3 to 6 months. I was wondering if there is any
progress with

Great to hear that Elecraft is doing so well!!!
Since you now have all these extra people, how about adding a K2 firmware
upgrade to the list of things to do.
I would love to see a couple of things added:

Hi Darryl,
1. At this time the FCC does not allow us to include easily removable
components that increase the gain above 15 dB. I don't see an easy way
to change this for outside the U.S.
2. We do not restrict the power on any band. That is the responsibility
of the operator.

Yes .. it is, after all, a linear (output proportional to input).

I would be very happy with the 15 db gain from the KPA800 if I could use
my
barefoot K2 at 10 watts input. Will this work with reduced output, e.g.:
320 out for 10w in?

Hi Jesse,
Fortunately this hasn't been a problem for us. While I think it has been
overblown as an issue we certainly are paying attention to it. For all
our kits you should still be soldering with regular lead based solder,
which eliminates any potential problems with with whiskers even when
How does lead free affect long term reliability?
An article I read some months ago pointed out the
problems of whiskers growing inside the components
without lead.

Great stuff. Thanks for the update. Any other interesting products

I obviously meant to delete that first sentence before sending the

were reviewing my posting.
Guess I need a better copy editor (that can read my mind) on my pc!

First of all I'd like to apologize for the lack of official status
updates on the KPA amplifier projects. To be honest we've been extremely
