The power switch pair is not a software controlled option, but a
hard-wired circuit that cannot be made configurable.

To clarify, I fully understand the reason the button combo is needed. I'm only

That's kinda the idea! It's harder to have the radio accidentally get turned

It does however get to be a pain when used on a desk even in the camper.

Would it be possible to add a menu feature to change the Power On/Off
button combo to buttons on the bottom row, for example PRE+DLY.
I find when using the KX3 as a base radio the BAND+ATU TUNER buttons are
more difficult to press at the same time as would buttons across the bottom
row.
Thanks!
Hit send too soon.
See page 28 of PX3 manual there is an internal jumper that can be set to
have PX3 power up when power supply is turned on.

I too am a little confused as to "Complete power down". If you do not shut
the KX3/KXPA100 down using the power off buttons ( band /autotune) but shut
down the external power source, the KX3 senses that and switches to internal
bat if installed. This switches the power out to below 10W which sets
Ted,
I am not sure what you mean about a "complete power down". If that
involves turning off the power supply, then I cannot comment because my
power supply is turned on 24/7. I have never seen that situation. My
KX3 turns on the KXPA100, no intervention required.
Based on my experience,
I have had similar experiences. After a complete power down and later
power up, the KX3 does not know the KXPA100 amp is ready even after both
are powered on, which then requires entering the menu and returning the
right PA setting. Reminiscent of the pre-fix days when turning on a K3

Unplug everything on left side of radio, but pwr. Try again
If still a problem, Check /re-seat the flex cable between the two main
boards. Might have been pinched or moved when you added batteries.

All,
I just joined the list and have a factory assembled KX3 for about the last 8
months. KX3 has had little use as I worked on putting together the power
supply and antenna. I have discovered a new issue and I am not sure what
caused it.
I updated the firmware to the latest version last week
You could also build something to apply power to the PTT line and turn it
on:
"To turn the KX3 on, a remote-control system can place 8 to 12 volts DC on
the mic jack’s PTT line for 100 ms or longer."

Larry,
The power on circuitry of the KX3 is a function of hardware, so changing it to
only 1 switch would require a modification to the control printed circuit board.

Ron,
That would be a nice 'option' to have.
I use my KX3 as a mobile rig and when touring and I come into a town I need
to either turn the volume down (easy) or simply turn it off and this does
become more complicated with the 2 button press while keeping my eyes on
the road ahead.
