Paul,
Refer to either the manual or K3 Utility "Force a Firmware Download" and
follow the instructions given there.
That condition is usually the result of a communications glitch during a
firmware download. Always wait until the firmware load completes before

Hi all
I have just tried to do the firmware update on my k3s, but come accross a
problem and now it's stuck in MCU Ld
And cannot get away from this now I have tried to follow the
troobleshooting advice but still no joy.
Has anyone come accross the same problem and if so how do I sort it.

I think I have a real mess up here. I did the latest firmware update and all
seemed o.k. until I tried to transmit. I have no audio at all. Thinking it
could be the mike, I put the original K3 mike on with same results. O.K.,
all I did was a firmware update so I decided to back rev to previous

Just holding the power button for 10 seconds is not sufficient.
Go to the K3 Utility Help file, and click on Troubleshooting.
From there, select Forcing the K3 into Firmware Load Required Mode
Then follow ALL the instructions shown.

The first step in the K3Utility help is to disconnect the K3 from the power
supply
for at least 30 seconds, maybe longer. In the K3 Utility, bring up the help
file, and
type force into the search box, then click on the List topics button for a step
by step.

Contact k3supp...@elecraft.com. Gary has some voltage checks on the
KIO3 to run. Also try once turning everything off (K3 power supply,

Also try forcing an MCU load (from page 45 of the owner's manual):
Forcing a Firmware Download
If you accidentally load an old or incompatible
firmware version and find the K3 unresponsive, do
the following: (1) unplug the K3 from the power
supply and wait 5 seconds; (2) plug the power

Thanks for all the replies.
All is well in K3 land here!
After loading the unit software and usb driver on my laptop and running the
util from there, the K3 reloaded the firmware.
All I had to do then was get the com port back to speed for the software I
use.
Forgot the K3 had an rs232 speed
I've got my K3 S/N 3278 hung up.
Sparing the details of the story, I was testing the K3 Util software when it
happened.
I probably tried to load the firmware and shouldn't have.
I've followed all the reset instructions in the help files and manual.
Including removing power etc etc.
Nothing is

OK,
I tried to load new firmware to the K3, not using the USB-serial

You need to set the radio selection in Router to none and I also turned off
polling
just in case.
Do that and then upload the firmware again with the utility.
