Hi Harold, It's certainly true that cold solder joints can arise from dirty/corroded PCB solder lands. The Elecraft boards in my K2/10 (now 17 years old, built by me) are very good quality with plated-through holes and durable solder mask. I had occasion to open my K2 to install the SSB and

I may have answered my own question by going back through the first part of the manual. It emphatically says to not use any solvents at risk of voiding the warranty, I have read before though that cold solder joints can result from dirty circuit boards. Any thoughts? Thanks. HH Harold
