If you are seeking connections for various microphones, I can suggest
you consult the extensive list of microphone schematics and pinouts
compiled by G4WPW (SK). his information is preserved at

It does not have any 'mic quality' information, but if

I have used a Kenwood MC-60, an old kenwood hand mic (no model #), A
Heil BM-10 with HC-4 element, and a Heil Proset with an HC-5 element.
They all sounded good to the people I talked to.

For DX and net, I use an old D104 Silver Eagle with a W2ENY element and
get good audio reports.
For rag chewing, I use a Heil PR77D and run ESSB.
EQ settings for both mics are set at 0dB.
I like the D104 better.

A mic, what's that? LOL
When I have operated phone, I either use my old Shure 444, or, for a
headset/boom mic, a Koss SB-45 (comfortable and $50). I receive great
audio reports from either of them.

I use a 35 year old mic from my TS-450 Kenwood.
It has a better feel than the Elecraft mic and I think it sounds better.

I have the Zoom Q2n video camera. I use it as a studio quality
microphone as well as a web cam and a stand alone video recording
device. I have only used a few of its capabilities too. If you need
stereo sound capability this tool works well.

I use a Zoom H4n "Handy Recorder" as my primary system mike. It has a
built-in USB interface, and is powered by the USB port. I use Voicemeeter

I currently use a Yamaha CM-500 with my K3 (s/n 261). In the past, I used a

OK I give up , since MOST of know that ANYTHING that is called a
microphone , ( maybe with the exception of a carbon mic ), can be hooked
up to an elecraft prompts the question " what is Wayne looking for ???
I have hooked up the military H250 dynamic handset , bunches of Shure
handhelds..and
Heil HC-4 headset (the mic has a rising characteristic at 2500 Hz) on a K3s.
Using the Heil Kenwood adapter on the front Mic jack, with a Heil
footswitch plugged into the inline 1/4" jack. The headset audio has a
1/8" stereo plug, so it plugs into the rear headphone jack.

Wayne,
I’ve used both on the K3S
Kenwood MC-60 w/std. Kenwood 8 pin connector
Heil HM-10 w/Kenwood 8 pin connector
I don’t recall that there were any problems with the up/down switches or
push-to-talk switch on the MC-60. I rarely operate phone!

If you're using a non-Elecraft mic with any of our radios (K2, K3, K4, KX2,
KX3), please send me a very brief reply with the manufacturer, model number,
and a note about whether any modifications were required. We're putting
together a database of these for customer reference.
Thanks!
