After reading Don's message about pin 5 and 6 I started to scratch my head
as to whether I made a modification or not to the Kenwood adapter for the
W2ENY headset/microphone.

I have the same headset/microphone as W2ENY and have very good results with
my K3.
I have used it both with the Kenwood adapter on the front panel as well as
without it on the pack panel. I have made no modifications, er well maybe
one described below. The microphone requires bias selected

The answer is 'it all depends'. You will have to do some checking of
the information about that particular mic.
Look at the microphone pinout information. If either pins 5 or 6 are
used, then that particular Kenwood microphone is *not* compatible with
