I had no trouble loading the latest firmware with the Mac utility. What error

I currently have firmware version 4.67 loaded on my K3. I just downloaded and
installed the latest firmware utility for Mac OS, 1.14. When I click on "check
for new files", I am told the latest file is 4.67 when in fact on the website

Mike, this s a known issue and I guess you have set BND CHG on the
KPA500 to STBY (which I think is safer) .
When BND CHG is set to NOR, the K3 returns to 100 W after a band change.
But this only occurs when changing bands from the KPA500 whilst K3
initiated band changes are OK.
I keep reminding
It shouldn't do that. At least mine does not.

Any word on when the new firmware upgrade is coming out to correct the per
band power output when using the K3 with the KPA500?
I'm still having the same problem of wanting the K3 to run 100w when
barefoot without the KPA500, only to find the power level keeps resetting to

Old-fashioned I guess but I use the serial port instead of USBworks every

Sam,
Yes, that certainly does point the finger at a flaky serial port. It
does not happen often, but it certainly is possible.
I am glad to hear that you have a better handle on it now.

Ah, very good. I would try another cable, and also make certain that no
other programs are running that may use the port. Are you using the latest
version of K3 Utility? Also, some have reported fewer problems if they

It is normal for the K3 display to go blank following each piece of a

Sam,
It sounds like something is interfering with the communications between K3

Are you using a true RS232 port on the PC, or a USB-RS232 adapter? If there
is a USB adapter inline, are you then going through a USB Hub? If a USB

So Last time I needed to check/upgrade my firmware,
I just used an ftp pgm to download the files and placed them in the
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Elecraft\K3 Firmware directory
Then
Within the last three or four months I upgraded all firmware chips for my 3
year old K2/100/KAT100-1 (so I could do the CW bandwidth mod and install the 60
meter board). I received version 1.08b for my KSB2. Since then I have
purchased a new KSB2 that has version 1.09. What does the 1.09 supp
