EN 50092-2 is not listed by CENELEC. Most likely, it is a typographical
error. The standard would either be:
EN 50082-2:1995, Electromagnetic compatibility, Generic immunity standard,
Part 2: Industrial environment
-or-
EN 50091-2:1995, Uninterruptible power systems (UPS), Part 2: EMC
Does anybody know the source for a child proof or shuttered CEE 7/7 Schuko
outlet?
My South Korean distributor tells me that metal chop sticks are common in
Korea. Because children will play with them, the Korean regulatory bodies
prefer some type of child safety for the outlets. Can anybody
The Alpha Wire and Cable company has a number of references available on
their Web site.

You can find Metric to AWG conversion tables as well as the maximum current
based on wire size and insulation.

A good source for power cord information is Panel Components.
http://www.panelcomponents.com/guide.htm
According to Panel Components, Laos has some CEE 7/16 Europlug outlets, but
they predominantly use North American NEMA 1-15 and 5-15 style outlets.
However, the power in Laos is 220 V, 50 Hz.
I have had products with this type of construction. I have products with
IEC-320-C14 inlet molded power cords that I have sent through VDE for IEC
60950 / EN 60950 approval and I have not had any compliance issues. I have
also owned a number of UL /CSA approved computer monitors with this
The University of Missouri at Rolla has a very good EMC program. They have
an EMC certification program available. You should be able to find
information at their web site:

Although this certification does not carry the weight of a PE, it is known
by many in the
IHS - Global Documents is a good source for any compliance document. They
have documents from most of the major compliance agencies. They carry
everything from UL and EN standards all the way to John Deere supplier
standards.

There are a number of good books available on the subject. There are two
that I would recommend to start with.
Printed Circuit Board Design Techniques for EMC Compliance
Mark I. Montrose
IEEE Press
ISBN 0-7803-1131-0
IEEE Order Number PC5595
Noise Reduction Techniques in Electronic Systems
Omega has a good reference available on their web site.

They also have plenty of good information on the properties and uses of
thermocouples.

BSMI approval for Taiwan is not as bad as it seems. The easiest way to
obtain BSMI approval is to work with a laboratory on the BSMI list posted
at:
http://www.bsmi.gov.tw/english/emc/e_emc_09.htm
These labs can perform the EMC testing and take care of the paperwork. The
laboratories outside
I would recommend using the limits for a SELV circuit for the lower limit
of the LVD.
The voltage between any two conductors in the equipment, or any conductor
and ground should not exceed 42.4 V peak or 60 V d.c. These are voltages
that are considered safe to touch. These voltages should not
Do not remove the battery unless the computer has been designed to be used
by the customer without the battery. The test should be performed on the
computer as it will be sold and used. If the computer is always used with
the battery installed, then that is the way to perform the test.

The first thing to do is to make sure that the oscilloscope is on a clean
power source. Make sure that it is plugged into a branch circuit different
from the ESD test equipment.
Next, reduce the length of the ground lead. Even if you are using the
shortest ground clip available with the
You do not need a metal case for an EMI filter. It is perfectly acceptable
to put a pair of Y capacitors, a common mode choke and an X cap on a
circuit board to form a basic line filter. (Be careful; if you use Y1
capacitors, a single capacitor may be used between line and earth. If you

The Regulatory Compliance Information Center web site has ECMA TR-39,
Compliance Verification Report, available on-line.

The information is not in a form that can be downloaded, but it does give
you a general idea of what is available from ECMA.
