G28 goes to a predefined position (home as defined in parameters 5156-5166). To make G28 go to 0,0,100 you must home the machine there which will become 0,0,0. Then a G28Z0 with no space will home the Z axis only. The space between the G28 and the axis must call up an undocumented feature... J

I just noticed on my Hardinge lathe, the AXIS position display now shows Y, in addition to X and Z. When I home Z, the homed icon shows up on Y instead. Z updates position properly. Y stays at zero. As a PC tech, I've seen several older Compaqs, especially laptops do as you describe. Sometimes they will freeze for seconds at a time then continue.
