Is this an X-Y mill base for a Unimat mill column? Would make a much nicer mill
than mounting the headstock on the column over the lathe bed.

The Emco Compact 5 head used to have a table like this for doing as you
say. (take head off of lathe and put it on an x/y table)
The colour looks like it's from Proxxon; (Proxon??)
The issue with these Emco/Unimat heads is the lack of Z depth setting, etc.

Some more digging shows it must be an earlier version of the Proxxon 24106
compound table.
